How It Happened
Things looked good for the Quakers to start this one. Senior
Jade Montgomery got Penn going in the top of the second inning in her best day of the year. Montgomery took advantage of a 3-1 count to hammer her first long ball of the year.
From there, things went quiet on both sides. Pitcher
Kelly Zybura began to rip through the Western Carolina lineup, facing three batters in the second and third inning before seeing four in the fourth.
The Catamounts would find their stride in the fifth inning and explode for eight runs. A sacrifice fly, a couple fielding errors, and a walk would make it 4-1 before a grand slam from Maya McPherson would blow the game wide open.
Senior
Delaney Smith gave her best efforts to shrink the lead, drilling her fifth home run of the year. However, that would go down as the final run for Penn to wrap up the Catamount Classic.
Up Next
The Quakers will return home to play their home opener against North Dakota on Wednesday, March 11 at Penn Park.
