PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team is ready to start its spring racing season, and the 16th-ranked Quakers jump right into the deep end on Sunday when they participate in the Doc Hosea Classic. The annual event will take place on the Cooper River in nearby Cherry Hill, N.J.
Penn will race Ivy rival Yale and Rutgers in Sunday's morning session, before facing Virginia in the afternoon session. In the latest College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) national rankings, which posted on Wednesday, the Quakers were ranked 16th while the Bulldogs were third, the Scarlet Knights were eighth, and the Cavaliers were ninth.
"We eagerly look forward to racing the Doc Hosea Regatta this Sunday," said Penn's second-year head coach,
Bill Manning. "Last year, we started successfully with a couple of wins in the Varsity Eight so this year we get to face even stronger competition. The team is excited to race three teams ranked in the top ten in the country with Yale and Rutgers in the morning and Virginia in the afternoon. The athletes enjoy the challenge and doing so gives us an early read on our competitive standing. To be one of the best, we want to race the best."
