PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League and Philadelphia Big 5 have announced their weekly awards in men's basketball, and University of Pennsylvania junior forward
TJ Power was named Player of the Week by both organizations. This is his third time earning the Big 5 award and second time getting the Ivy weekly award this season.
Power certainly earned the honors. He scored 38 points on Friday against Dartmouth, the fifth-highest scoring game in program history. Perhaps more impressively, 22 of those points came in the second half as Penn overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to beat the Big Green, 80-71. At one points the junior had scored 38 of Penn's 70 points in the game, and by the same token he had 22 of the Quakers' first 36 points in the second half. Power shot 14-22 from the field, including 6-8 on 3FG , and added a game-high 12 rebounds. The next night, against Harvard, Power scored all of his nine points (on a trio of treys) in the second half as the Quakers overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to down the Crimson, 64-61. He also led Penn with nine boards, flirting with his second double-double in as many nights.
With the wins over the Big Green and Crimson, Penn clinched its spot in the 2026 Ivy League Tournament which will take place March 14-15 in Ithaca, N.Y. The Quakers are guaranteed to be the third seed and will meet second-seeded Harvard in a semifinal on Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m. The other semi will feature top-seeded Yale and fourth-seeded Cornell at 11 a.m., with the winners meeting in the Ivy Madness final on Sunday, March 15 at noon. The winner of that game will clinch the Ivy League's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Penn (15-11, 8-5 Ivy League) closes out the regular season on Friday at Brown, before beginning preparations for the Ivy League Tournament.
