Wrestling Hosts #21 Cornell on Sunday for Afternoon Conference Clash

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team is back in the Palestra on Sunday, Feb. 8, hosting #21 Cornell for a 1 p.m. Ivy League clash.

The Penn vs. Cornell Series
*Cornell holds a commanding lead in the all-time matchup between these two programs, carrying a 22-meet streak into Sunday's battle.
 
*Max Gallagher (125), CJ Composto (141), and Cross Wasilewski (149) were victorious in Ithaca last year, accounting for Penn's ten points in the 26-10 contest at then #9 Cornell.
 
*The Quakers won a meet in the series since the 2001-02 season when the Red and Blue took the bout 21-9.

*Penn had a stellar road trip in New England last weekend, topping Brown 35-6, and Harvard 33-4 to complete the sweep.
 
*Davis Motyka (125), Evan Mougalian (133), Composto, Wasilewski, Sean Seefeldt (165), Caden Bellis (174), and Liam Carlin (184) all went 2-0 on the weekend to highlight the Quakers' performance in the Ivy battles.
 
*The pair of wins helped senior Composto, junior Mougalian, and sophomore Wasilewski shift to 3-0 in conference duals.
 
*Senior Composto (4-0) and sophomore Wasilewski (7-0) are still undefeated in in dual action heading into the weekend.
 
*Six Quakers sit in the Intermat and FloWrestling rankings, with sophmore Wasilewski leading the charge at #5 in the 149 field. #7 Composto (141), #12 Swisher (157), #13 Mougalian (133), #20 Seefeldt (165), and #29 Motyka (125) round out the Red and Blue in the individual rankings.
 
Scouting the Big Red
*The Big Red are coming off a tough performance last weekend in the Empire State, falling to Columbia (22-21) and Arizona State (18-17).
 
*Cornell brings five ranked grapplers to University City, with Jaxon Joy (174), Meyer Shapiro (157), and Simon Ruiz (174) leading the charge at #2 at their weights. Vince Cornell sits at #7 at 141, and Tyler Ferrara holds #16 at 133 to even out the Big Red in the rankings.
