PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team got head coach Taylor Wray his first win at the helm on Tuesday, downing No. 20 UAlbany on the road, 15-10. The Quakers are right back at it, though, playing their third game in a week as the University of Delaware comes to town Saturday for a noon faceoff.
 
Saturday's game is the first of a doubleheader at Franklin Field, as the Penn women host No. 7 Johns Hopkins at 3:30 p.m.

The Series with Delaware
*32nd meeting; the Quakers lead the series, 23-8.
 
*Penn is playing the Blue Hens for the third straight season after not seeing them on the schedule from 2002-23.
 
*Penn took a 10-2 decision last year in Newark, Del., the Quakers holding the Hens to the fewest goals by a Penn opponent since an 11-2 win over Dartmouth on April 20, 2013. The Red and Blue also beat UD two years ago at Franklin Field, by an 11-10 score.
 
*Delaware's last wins in the series came three straight years from 1999 to 2001, including a 14-11 decision at Franklin Field in 1999.
 
Strong Schedule…Again!
Although it's a new head coach, Penn's tradition of strong scheduling continues. Coach Wray and his staff have set up a 13-game slate that features seven games against teams that were in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Top 20 poll—including five of the top six teams—and four more against teams in the "also receiving votes" section. Home Cooking
*Penn will play four of its first five and five of its first seven games at home this season. Following the Harvard game on March 14, the Quakers are home just one more time—that comes April 4 against defending NCAA champion Cornell, which will also be Alumni Day for the Penn lacrosse programs.
 
*In addition, Penn is home more in February (4 games) than in March and April combined (2). We're taking some liberties here; the fourth home game is really March 1, but we're counting it as February since it happens on a weekend that also includes February dates.
 
Preseason All-America Recognitions
Senior middie Griffin Scane received honorable mention recognition by both USA Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse when they announced their Preseason All-America teams.
 
Junior SSDM Anthony McMullan received Preseason All-America honorable mention recognition from Inside Lacrosse for the second straight year.
 
Quaker Notemeal from UAlbany
*Penn used a sizable advantage on the face-off, winning the X 21-8 as Ethan Costanzo was 11-16 (.688) and freshman Quinn Ball was 8-9 (.889).
 
*Junior Davis Provost led the attack for the second straight game, scoring four goals and adding an assist for five points. He had 10 shots on the day.
 
*Senior Griffin Scane also had four goals—three of them coming in the decisive second quarter—on eight shots.
 
*Freshman Jackson Maher announced himself in a big way, with two goals and three assists for five points.
 
*Junior Ben Beacham and senior Isaac Korus were also two-goal scorers on Tuesday, Beacham adding an assist.
 
*Junior Leo Hoffman had Penn's other goal and still another junior, Grayson McClements, dished off two assists.
 
*Jack Pelot once again got the start in goal and made nine saves on the day.
 
Notemeal from Georgetown
*Penn met the Hoyas as equals almost across the scoresheet. The teams tied in shots, 34-34, and in ground balls, 28-28. The Quakers also narrowly won the faceoff battle, 13-12, and were a solid 20-22 clearing the ball.

*Provost was Penn's leading scorer; he opened the Quakers' account just 2:06 into the game and ended the day with three goals and an assist.

*Scane and Beacham were two-goal scorers, with Beacham also dishing off an assist.

*Senior Travis Smith—who sniped a goal on an extra-man opportunity—and Maher were the Quakers' other goal scorers.

*Hoffman, sophomore Nate Lucchesi and Matt McMillen had assists on the day.

*At the other end of the field, Pelot made his collegiate debut in goal and finished the day with 12 saves.

*Costanzo had a solid day among three Penn players who faced off; the senior went 7-10 on the X for a .700 win percentage.
 
Preseason Notemeal
*Scane is Penn's leading returning scorer, both in goals (25) and points (30). That included a team-high five EMO goals in 2025.
 
*Junior Davis Provost finished third on the team in goals (17) and points (24 last year.
 
*Junior Leo Hoffman was Penn's leading assist man last year, with 11, and added four goals for 15 points in total.
 
*Sophomore Nate Lucchesi was the Quakers' other double-digit scorer in 2025, with 10 points (4g/6a).
 
*Among the returning defenders, Ryan McLaughlin had eight caused turnovers and 18 ground balls while Dante Vardaro had six CTs and eight GBs. Ryan Sullivan started every game last season on close D and had five caused turnovers and nine ground balls.
 
*Matthew Till was mostly an LSM last year but finished the campaign with 12 caused turnovers and 13 ground balls. Expect to see him back at LSM or on close D.
 
*Among the SSDMs, McMullan leads the brigade but others who saw time last year include Jacob Pacheco and Paul vanBastelaar.
 
*Sophomore Stevie Davis returns after taking most of Penn's faceoffs a year ago; he was 106-231 on the X for a .459 win percentage. Other FOGOs to look for include seniors Mac Eldridge and Ethan Costanzo, junior Will Roberts, and freshman Quinn Ball.
 
*Obviously some big shoes to fill in goal, as Emmet Carroll graduated after a standout career that included All-America honors as a junior. Four candidates have been vying for that spot: senior Chuck Cacciutti, junior Declan Monahan, sophomore Jack Pelot, and freshman Chandler McClements.
 
*Among the freshmen, Jackson Maher (23rd) and Ball (26th) were listed on the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Power 100 Freshman Rankings back in August.
 
*Eldridge, McLaughlin, Pacheco and Scane will serve as this year's captains.
