T&F Heads to Clemson and Boston for Dual-Meet Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track & field teams are split across two meets this weekend. Distance will travel to Boston, Mass. to compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, while field events and sprints take on the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson.

Tiago Socarras, Benjamin Markham, Nicholas DeVita, and Nicolas Pizarro broke the men's 4x800m relay program record that had stood since 1977, clocking in at 7:22.43.

Socarras followed the relay by crushing the program's 800m record with a time of 1:46.99, currently ranked 15th in the NCAA. Markham claimed victory in the 500m with a personal-best time of 1:03.33.

Takunda Mhete made his season-debut in the long jump, placing second with a mark of 7.13m  (23' 4.75").

Freshman Thomas Bucks cleared the bar at a personal-best height of 5.10m (16 feet 8.75 inches) in the men's pole vault. 
 
Penn women won the 4x800m relay on day one of the Penn Classic (8:43.38) followed by a victory in the 4x400m on day two at 3:36.90. L'Mio Edwards, Alexa Matora,

Maggie McCabe, and Quin Stovall (4x800) along with Rianna Floyd, Sofia SwindellJailyn Milord, and Giuliana Ligor (4x400) rank first in the Ivy League.

Edwards clocked in a personal-best 1000m time of 2:44.17, second-fastest time in program history. Kyra Compton placed third in the 3000m invitational with a personal-best time of 9:37.37.

Mikaela Lyri earned third in the long jump with a mark of 5.93m (19' 5.50"), ranked sixth all-time in program history.
