THE BROWN SERIES
Penn has won seven of the last 10 matchups with Brown, including last season's 73-61 victory at The Palestra. Before the 2022-23 season the Quakers had been on a 21 game winning streak against the Bears dating back to 2012. With a win, the Red and Blue will tie the series at 22 a piece on the road at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown has had their way with Penn as of late, winning two of the last three games between the teams. In last year's matchup, senior
Stina Almqvist became the 26th player in program history to reach 1,000 points.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown enters Saturday's game after defeating Yale in its Ivy League opener, 88-72, winning its third straight game. The Bears scored a season-high 88 points against the Bulldogs, while also knocking down a season-best 17 free throws. Similarly to Penn, Brown is elite defensively allowing just 55.2 points per game which ranks second best in the conference. However, one glaring difference between the two teams is their success at the free throw line. The Bears rank as the lowest team in the conference in free throw percentage, shooting just 60 percent on the year. One area that Brown excels in is rebounding, sitting atop the conference standings averaging 42.2 rebounds per game. Senior Alyssa Moreland averages a double double with 13.8 points, and 10.8 rebounds per game which leads the Ivy League. Moreland also leads the Ivy League in field goal percentage (55 percent). Senior Grace Arnolie leads the team in scoring, averaging 17 points per game.
COLLINS IS COOKIN
Sophomore forward
Katie Collins had herself a week full of accolades, earning Big 5 and Ivy League Player of the Week. Collins won tournament MVP of the FDU Christmas Classic after an 18 point and 10 rebound double double performance against UMES in game one and a season-high 21 in the championship win against Binghamton. She also scored 15 points against Princeton in Penn's Ivy League opener on Jan. 3.
PRINCETON RECAP
In the Ivy League opener for both teams, the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team gave No. 25 Princeton all it could handle on Saturday but fell to the Tigers, 74-68.
Penn was down by nine after three quarters, but opened the fourth with a 15-2 run that had the Quakers up by four near the midpoint of the period. However, the experienced Tigers flipped the script with the next eight points and that proved to be enough as the Red and Blue couldn't make up the difference.
Penn saw its five-game win streak end and fell to 10-4 overall, while the 25th-ranked Tigers improved to 13-1.
AYE AYE, CAPTAINS!
Penn has five players leading the team as captains in 2025-26, tying a program record for a single season. The leadership group is made up of seniors
Saniah Caldwell,
Simone Sawyer, and
Georgia Heine, as well as junior Gayle and sophomore Collins. There have been just two other seasons in program history when the Quakers had five captains: 2004-05 and 2020-21 (which was canceled due to COVID-19).
STRONG START
Penn's 10-4 start to the season is tied with the 2019-20 season for the best start in recent memory. The Quakers ended the 2025 calendar year on a high note, winning five straight games in the month of December. The Red and Blue have held opponents to 55.6 points per game in their last six as they have found their footing defensively.
Katie Collins (1.7) and
Tina Njike (1.0) rank in the top 10 in the Ivy League in blocks per game.
Mataya Gayle (1.6) also sits at ninth in the conference in steals per game. The Quakers have also found their groove offensively, averaging 65.8 points per game in the last six. Penn is currently the only team that ranks in the top three in the Ivy League in both scoring offense and defense this season.
