Newash-Campbell Shatters School Record in 400m at Bob Pollock

PHILADELPHIA – The Penn track and field teams wrapped up competition across two competitive meets on Friday, with Nayyir Newash-Campbell breaking the 400m school record. 

Newash-Campbell delivered a standout performance in the 400m at the Bob Pollock Invitational, finishing second at 46.08, over a second faster than his previous school record (47.15). Ryan Matulonis followed with a sixth-place personal-best time of 46.56, ranked second in program history. 

Shane Gardner placed third in the 60m hurdles clocking in a season-best time of 7.78.

On the women's side, Mikaela Lyri recorded a personal-best mark of 5.91m (19' 9.75") in the long jump, finishing eighth. 

At the Penn Invitational, the women's high jump group led the way with three top-five finishes. Zofia Limbert cleared 1.68m (5' 6") to place second, with Samantha Strydesky in third at 1.63m (5'4.25") and Lydia Merrick in fifth at 1.58m (5' 2.25").

Ella Neskora finished second in weight throw with a sixth round mark of 16.81m (55' 2"). Thomas Bucks placed third in pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 5.05m (16' 6.75"). 

On the track, Benjamin Markham won the men's 800m at 1:50.57, followed by Nicholas DeVita in second at 1:50.57, Vinay Raman in third (1:51.00), Nicolas Pizarro in fourth (1:51.74), and Liam Going fifth at 1:51.38, giving the team five top-five finishes in the event. 

Lara Cota recorded a personal best in the mile, finishing third at 4:52.00. Simone Castelluccio recorded a personal-best in the 200m clocking in 24.73.

Giuliana Ligor captured the women's 500m at 1:14.76, followed by L'Mio Edwards in second at 1:16.68. Alec Jackson claimed the men's 500m at 1:04.61.
