NEW YORK, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams shined brightly on the national stage on the first day of the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships. 

The women's team got the day started with a bang as Malak Taha, Sohalia Ismail and Allie Stoddard all won their first round matchups, advancing to the round of 32. 

Franka Vidovic and Malak Khafagy joined the winning ways of their teammates, both securing a second round victory after receiving a first round bye. 

Taha and Ismail added their second wins of the tournament in the round of 32, joining Khafagy and Vidovic in the round of 16 beginning tomorrow, Jan. 24. 

On the men's side, Alex Dartnell and Marwan Abdelsalam earned first round victories in the afternoon slate, advancing to the second round.

Dartnell faced off against teammate and defending champion Salman Khalil in the round of 32.

Khalil ultimately prevailed with a 3-1 win over his teammate as he advanced to the round of 16 and will take on Yusuf Sheikh of Columbia. 

After receiving a first round bye, No. 2 ranked Omar Hafez defeated Nicolas Serna in the round of 32, joining Khalil in the round of 16.

Sophomore Abdelsalam ended the successful day for the Quakers with a hard fought victory over Rohan Gondi of Yale which lasted five games, as he also advanced to tomorrow's round of 16.
