#22 Wrestling Opens Ivy League Action With Columbia Saturday Night in The Palestra

PHILADELPHIA – The nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania wrestling team is back on the mats this weekend, opening Ivy League action against Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. inside the Palestra.

The Penn vs. Columbia Series
*The Quakers carry a four-match win streak into this weekend's contest, topping Columbia 24-20 in the Big Apple last year.
 
*CJ Composto won the final match of the meet by decision, 8-4, to push Penn past the Lions and help secure the victory.
 
*Max Gallagher (125), Ryan Miller (133), Composto, Cross Wasilewski (149), Jude Swisher (157), and Andy Troczynski picked up victories over the Lions.
 
Quaker Notemeal
*Penn shifted to 4-0 in dual action back on January 11, topping Northern Colorado 25-10 on the road.
 
*Brady Pruett (125), Nathan Taylor (141), Wasilewski (149), Swisher (157), Sean Seefeldt (165), Martin Cosgrove (197), and John Pardo (285) won their matches against the Bears to account for the Red and Blue's 25 points in the victory.
 
*Junior Cosgrove and senior Pruett won their first duals of the season in the non-conference clash.
 
*Six Quakers sit in the Intermat and FloWrestling rankings, with senior Composto leading the charge at #7 in the 141 field. #8 Wasilewski (149), #13 Mougalian (133), #13 Swisher (157), #19 Seefeldt (165), and #29 Davis Motyka (125) round out the Red and Blue in the individual rankings. As a squad, Penn sits at #22 in the Intermat dual rankings.

*Columbia opens Ivy League action on Friday night, heading to Princeton before coming to University City.
 
*The Lions currently hold four wins on the season against Hofstra (32-6), Clarion (32-9), LIU (35-12), and Morgan State (44-4).
 
*Columbia brings five ranked grapplers to University City, with Kai Owen leading the charge at #18 in the 157 field. #19 Lorenzo Frezza (141), #28 Nick Fine (174), #31 Cesar Alvan (165), #32 Jack Wehmeyer (197), and #32 Vincent Mueller even out the Lions' presence in the rankings.
