PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track and field teams turned in a strong performance at the Quakers Invitational on Saturday, recording three NCAA DI Top-25 times.
Fore Abinusawa swept the women's 60m, advancing with a 7.41 in prelims before winning the final at 7.32, a mark that ranks 21st in the NCAA.
In the men's 60m hurdles,
Shane Gardner advanced to the finals with a time of 7.79, ranked 22
nd in the NCAA. Gardner went on to finish third in the finals at 7.90.
The men's 200m showcase the depth of the men's sprints group, led by
Nayyir Newash-Campbell clocking in a personal-best time of 21.17, ranked second in program history and 23
rd in the NCAA.
Ryan Matulonis followed in second with a personal-best time of 21.37, and
Simeon Adams in third at 21.41.
Freshman
Jailyn Milord claimed first in the women's 200m at 24.21, tied for eighth in program history.
In the field,
Stella Inman took first in the women's weight throw with a personal-best mark of 19.72m (64' 8.5"), ranked third in program history.
Women's high jump placed four athletes in the top five, led by
Zofia Limbert in second at 1.73m (5' 8").
Samantha Strydesky,
Yuliya Maslouskaya, and
Lydia Merrick all cleared 1.68m (5' 6"), placing third through fifth, respectively.
Evangeline Thomson recorded a third placed finish in pole vault clearing a personal-best height of 4.02m (13' 2.25"), third in program history.
Kampton Kam made his season-debut in the men's jump clearing the bar at 2.11m (6' 11") to finish second.
The Quakers return to action on Jan. 22-24 hosting the Penn Elite Meet at the Jane and David Ott Center for Track and Field.
