Socarras Leads Ivy League as Quakers Shine at Penn Select

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania hosted the Penn Select meet on Saturday providing a strong early-season showing across the board. Freshman Tiago Socarras leads the Ivy league in the men's mile clocking in a time of 4:04.50. 

Socarras crossed the finish line second with the 19th fastest time in the NCAA this season. He was backed by Liam Going in third at 4:06.25, Kofi Fordjour in fourth (4:08.71), and Vinay Raman in fifth (4:09.75). 

L'Mio Edwards claimed third in the women's race recording a time of 4:51.89, first among collegiate athletes. Nia Akins took first with a meet record time of 4:43.32. 

In the women's 3000m, Anna Weirich claimed victory with a time of 9:42.62, fastest time this season in the Ivy League. Kyra Compton finished second at 9:49.66, followed by Sarah Fischer in third at 9:49.87. 

Freshman Carson Edwards stopped the clock at 6.86 in the men's 60m final to finish second. Daniella Oyenuga took third in the women's 60m at 7.67. Sean Golembiewski continued to show his strong form in the men's 60m hurdles, finishing second at 8.31. 

In the field, Colton Dean made his season-debut in pole vault clearing the bar set at 5.05m (16' 6.75"), placing third. Dean's height ranks second in the Ivy League. 

Evangeline Thomson won her second meet of the season clearing 3.92m (12' 10.25").

Stella Inman won the women's weight throw with a fifth round mark of 18.70m (61' 4.25"), followed by Ella Neskora in second at 17.73m (58' 2"). 

Senior Angeludi Asaah placed third in the women's shot put with a mark of 14.85m (48' 8.75"). 

The Quakers return to action on Jan. 17th hosting the Quaker Invitational at the Jane and David Ott Center for Track and Field.
