How it Happened
The Quakers and Leopards match started fierce and never looked back. At the 6th minute of the opening frame, the Leopards moved the ball down the field following a pair of dueling corner kicks. Despite particularly good defense from Penn, Lafayette received a great pass in tight and junior midfielder Nadia Zaffenella finished the job to give the game its first lead.
The Quakers' offense would not be deterred, as
Avery Chapel got a great look from a near-field crosser, but was stopped center-goal by junior goalkeeper Catherine Apker shortly after the Lafayette goal. Similarly, at the 35th minute,
Kylie Emanuel took a free kick from just outside the box, only to be saved once more by the Leopards' netminder.
Just before the end of the first half,
Hailey Adamsky was on the receiving end of a ricochet following a cross from the far side of the pitch. The pass went off two players attempting a header before falling into Adamsky's lap. One tap towards the left pole later, and the slate was evened.
Inside second-half action, Penn got it going first. At the 62nd minute, senior forward
Anuli Okafor carried the ball up the near half of the field before crossing it to
Abbey Cook for the tap in, providing Cook with her first goal of the match.
Shortly after, in the 64th minute, Nadia Zaffenella crossed a pass from the far side of the box junior forward Ava Murphy, who settled the pass before pitching it just over
Megan Graves' hands to tie the score.
The final 25 minutes would provide quality opportunities on each side, with equally stout defense to match to give the match its 2-2 draw.
The Quakers return home following the two-game road stint. They are back in action for a four-match homestand, the first of which comes on September 11 on Rhodes Field against Saint Joseph's.
