How it Happened
No acclimation period was needed to begin this one. 17 seconds into the match, Hawks freshman midfielder Chelsea Leal played the ball back to Emily Hanrahan. The junior forward sent a bang-bang pass ahead to sophomore Sarah Fisher for the opening goal of the match. Following the goal, the Hawks mounted offensive pressure, controlling the pace of play in the Quakers' defensive zone. The Quakers would not be phased, however.
At the 14th minute, junior
Taylor Ferraro was granted a corner kick, which she crossed to fellow junior
Leah Finkelman, who sat at the top of the box. Finkelman played it on to
Avery Chapel, who knocked a one-timer through to level the score.
The first half would start to even out following the Quaker goal, with the Quakers putting up five shots while the Hawks managed three.
The second half would bring more of the same intensity, with the match seeing three yellow cards handed out.
At the 65th minute, the Quakers got a nice opportunity when
Magali Capdevila sent a shot from the far edge of the box screaming towards the goal before clipping the outside of the near post
.
Later, Hawks junior defender Jailyn Parrotte was able to put a good shot on courtesy of a Quaker turnover, but the heater was stuffed by junior Graves.
At the 79th minute, Graves sent a goal kick down the far sideline to be received by
Anuli Okafor. With Hawks' goalie Peyton Radwanski charging in fast outside the box, Okafor was able to put the ball beside the netminder in the direction of Haley Adamsky. Adamsky put a strong kick on the ball towards the empty net and sunk what would be the deciding factor in tonight's contest.
The Hawks got one more good look to even the score, when defender Maddie Anderson laced a free kick from deep, hitting the crossbar. Off the ricochet, Hanrahan was able to get a shot off the rebound, only to be denied from inside.
The intensity of the match never let up, and it resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Red and Blue.
The Quakers will look to build off this great win when they host the Villanova Wildcats Sunday at 6 p.m. on Rhodes Field.
