Adams, Fonseca Honored as GCAA All-America Scholars

PHILADELPHIA - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced its Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for the 2024-25 academic year in men's golf, and the list includes recent rising University of Pennsylvania juniors Hayden Adams and Max Fonseca.

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.20. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university. Overall, 556 NCAA Division I athletes from 190 schools earned Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors for the 2024-25 season.

In addition, Penn's team was one of four Ivy League programs and 75 nationally at the Division I level to achieve All-Academic Team status. That announcement came on Tuesday, August 5.

A second-team All-Ivy selection by the Ancient Eight coaches, Fonseca played 25 tournament rounds across 11 tournaments this season and had a team-low 74.0 stroke average, finishing the season 2.76 above par per round. He was the Quakers' low scorer four times this year and was second among Penn players five other times. That included the Ivy League Championship, where he tied for second among Quakers and tied for 20th overall. Fonseca had five top-10 finishes including two in the top four. The sophomore had five even-par rounds and went under par three times in 2024-25, and his low round was a 6-under-par 66 at the Savannah Intercollegiate—the first round of Penn's spring season.

Adams, meanwhile, also played in all 11 tournaments and was right behind Fonseca with a 74.1 stroke average across his 25 tournament rounds. He received honorable mention All-Ivy recognition. Adams was the Quakers' low scorer in each of the last four events this season including the Ivy League Championship last weekend, where he shot 73-73—146 (+6) and placed 13th individually. Adams had three top-seven finishes this season, going t-3rd at the Big 5 Championship to wrap up the fall, t-6th at Seattle University's Redhawk Invitational, and seventh at Columbia's Roar-EE Invitational. Adams had three under-par rounds in 2024-25, three even-par rounds, and shot a 68 twice this season (4-under-par at the Roar-EE Invitational, 3-under-par at the Redhawk Invitational).
