Brandt Named IWLCA Midfielder of the Year; First in Program History

NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. – The IWLCA has named four All-Americans from Division I as positional Players of the Year on Wednesday afternoon, with Anna Brandt of the University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team earning Midfielder of the Year.

Midfielder Brandt earned the prestigious honor for the first time in Penn history after a historic senior year. Brandt, a consensus First Team All-American, who was named a USA Lacrosse, Inside Lacrosse, and IWLCA First Team All-American earlier this month, won Ivy League Midfielder of the Year for the second time in her collegiate career and landed Unanimous First Team All-Ivy for the third year, led the Quakers in free position goals (11), caused turnovers (28), ground balls (60), goals (68), and points (71).

The senior slashed three program records and tied one this season, breaking the all-time goals record with her 149th goal against Temple in February, the all-time draw control record with her 174th against Loyola Maryland, and the single-season goal record with her 64th goal of the year this week in the NCAA quarterfinals against #3 Northwestern. Brandt tied the single-game goal record with nine over Cornell. The White Hall, Md., native had a strong stat line in the NCAA women's lacrosse tournament, tallying six goals in the first two rounds to become the first Quaker in program history to score 200 goals. The Tewaaraton Foundation named Brandt a semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Award for the first time in her career to add to her stellar resume.

Brandt is only the second player in program history to earn an IWLCA postseason position Player of the Year award, with the latest Quaker to earn an award coming from the 2008 campaign when Sarah Waxman was named IWLCA Goalkeeper of the Year.
