PHILADELPHIA – University of Pennsylvania Field Hockey Head Coach Scott Tupper has announced the team captains for his inaugural season in University City. Senior
Julia Ryan will serve as captain while
Ellie Almeida will be the program's first vice captain.
"I look forward to seeing Julia and Ellie take on their leadership roles within Penn Field Hockey," said Tupper, who was announced as Penn's head coach on December 23. "They are both strong players, diligent students and high-character people who will help push Penn forward. I'm confident that with the support of their teammates and the coaching staff, they will lead our team effectively and help put us in position for success in the 2025 season."
Ryan was named Second Team All-Ivy last season for the second year in a row. She was one of the best offensive players in the conference, ranking fourth in assists (6) and seventh in points (18). She became the first Quaker to record six-plus goals and assists in a season since Alexa Hoover in 2017.
The Brookline, Mass. native also earned Academic All-Ivy honors for her contributions on the field and in the classroom.
Almeida started all 16 games last season, playing 626 minutes. She helped anchor a backline that conceded one or fewer goals on five occasions, including a shutout against Dartmouth on October 11.
Penn field hockey will be entering its 52nd season in program history, one win shy from 400 all time.
