Penn Athletics Announces 2024-25 Senior Student-Athlete Awards

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania's Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics (DRIA) announced its major intercollegiate senior student-athlete awards at the annual "Quakers Choice Awards" banquet on Wednesday night, April 30. Five awards were handed out.

In the two most prominent senior awards of the night, Matt Fallon (Warren, N.J./Pingry School) from men's swimming & diving was honored with the Class of 1915 Award while women's lacrosse standout Anna Brandt (White Hall, Md./Hereford) was named recipient of the Association of Alumnae Fathers' Trophy.

Presented annually since 1931, the Class of 1915 Award is given to the male student-athlete who best exemplifies the spirit and tradition of University of Pennsylvania Athletics. The recipient must be a senior student-athlete who shows outstanding athletic, academic, and leadership qualities. The academic standard is a 3.0 GPA. Voting on the award is conducted by the head coaches of Penn's varsity men's programs.

The Fathers' Trophy has been given annually since 1945 to the woman who is recognized for her contribution to Women's Athletics at the University of Pennsylvania. The recipient must be a senior student-athlete who shows outstanding athletic, academic, and leadership qualities. The academic standard is a 3.0 GPA. Voting on the award is conducted by the head coaches of Penn's varsity women's programs.

Penn Athletics also announced recipients of the Norman J. Goldring and George H. Frazier Prizes on Wednesday night. The Goldring Prize is given to one graduating male and one graduating female student-athlete with the highest GPA who earned a varsity letter in his/her senior year. The Frazier Prize, meanwhile, is given to a graduating student-athlete (male or female) with the highest GPA who competed on one of the following teams: basketball, crew, track, soccer, baseball, or football. Both have been presented annually since 2000.

Men's swimmer Daniel Trincher (Edgewater, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) was named the male recipient of the Goldring Prize, while four women shared the Goldring as female recipients: Erika Chung (Great Falls, Va./Langley) of women's lacrosse, Isabella Garrett (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn Regional) of gymnastics, Maya Leschly (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) of women's soccer, and Erica Wu (Marietta, Ga./Wheeler) from women's fencing. Leschly also is this year's recipient of the Frazier Prize.

CLASS OF 1915 AWARD
Matt Fallon, men's swimming & diving
For the second consecutive year, Fallon in March was the national runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Division I Championships, posting a time of 1:48.87 and picking up his third career first-team All-America accolade. The senior also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished in 22nd place (51.76). Fallon—who holds the Ivy League record in the 200 breast (1:48.48) and the program standard in the 100 breast (51.45)—won the 200 breast for the third time in his career at the Ivy League Championships. The Warren, N.J. native also won silver in the 100 breast (51.46) and took seventh place in the 500 freestyle (4:22.13). In addition, Fallon helped the Quakers set a program record in the 400 medley relay (3:09.40). Fallon has also found success on the international stage, highlighted by his finishing tenth in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.96) at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. He holds the American record in the event (2:06.54), which he set at the 2024 Olympic Trials. Fallon has won two United States national titles in the 200 breast and was the bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships, making him the first Penn swimmer to medal at Worlds. In addition, Fallon was the 2023 U.S. Open champion in the 200 breast with a meet-record time of 2:09.48. A Finance concentration in Wharton who is also a computer science major with a mathematics minor, Fallon is just the seventh men's swimmer to receive the Class of 1915 Award and the first since Mark Andrew in 2018-19.

ASSOCIATION OF ALUMNAE FATHERS' TROPHY
Anna Brandt, women's lacrosse
The program's all-time leading goal scorer, with 193, Brandt recently became just the sixth player in program history to reach the 200-point milestone. On Tuesday, she was named Ivy League Midfielder of the Year for the second time in her career—she also won it as a sophomore—and was a unanimous selection as first-team All-Ivy for the third year in a row. Brandt also holds the program mark for draw controls in a career (206), tied the program mark for goals in a game earlier this season against Cornell with nine, and on Penn's single-season charts she holds three of the top six spots in goals (60 as a junior, 55 so far as a senior, 54 as a sophomore) and two of the top seven spots in draw controls (62 as a sophomore, 58 as a junior). Brandt was a third-team All-America selection by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Inside Lacrosse last season as a junior and received honorable mention All-America recognition from Inside Lacrosse as a sophomore. She has also been an Ivy League Tournament all-tourney pick twice, including last season at Yale when she set tournament records for goals in a game (8 against Princeton in a semifinal) and a tournament (12). Brandt helped Penn win the Ivy League regular-season and Tournament titles her sophomore year, and again last year when the Quakers advanced to the NCAA Championship quarterfinal round. Penn tied for second in the Ivy standings this season and is the third seed for this weekend's Ivy League Tournament, at Princeton. A Legal Studies & Business Ethics concentration and Finance concentration in Wharton, Brandt is the second straight women's lacrosse player honored with the Fathers' Trophy—Niki Miles was a co-recipient last year—and the 19th women's lacrosse player overall to be bestowed the honor.
