NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 49 University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team defeated No. 60 Yale, 4-1, at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
The victory marks the 50th career win for Albert G. Malloy Men's Tennis Head Coach
Rich Bonfiglio. He accomplished the feat in three seasons at Penn.
It is also the Quakers' 21st win this season – the second-most in program history – only trailing the 2005-06 season where the Red and Blue won 22 matches.
Shaurya Bharadwaj and
Manfredi Graziani got Penn on the board first with a commanding 6-1 victory at No. 2. After dropping their next doubles match,
Parashar Bharadwaj and
Tal Goodman triumphed in the tiebreaker to secure the doubles point.
In singles, Graziani set the tone at the first position with a straight-sets victory.
Shaurya Bharadwaj put Penn up 3-0 for his team-best 21st dual match win.
Goodman fell in his first set at No. 3 but came back to give Penn the 4-1 victory.
Aaron Sandler dropped his first singles match of the season, reaching 10 victories before experiencing defeat.
Sanjeev Chundu and
Matthew Rutter each won a set before their matches were abandoned.
