Women's Tennis Takes Down Brown, 4-2

PHILADELPHIA— The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team took down Brown, 4-2, earlier this afternoon at the Hamlin Tennis Center.

With the win, Penn moved to 11-9 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. The Quakers now also hold sole possession of second place in the conference after Harvard defeated No. 69 Columbia and Princeton defeated No. 70 Yale earlier this afternoon.

The Bears jumped out to an early lead, winning two straight doubles matches to secure the first team point. Gavriella Smith made up the difference quickly, needing only an hour to win her match in two straight sets and secure the first match point for Penn. No. 110 Esha Velaga finished her match just minutes later, earning the second point for the Quakers and giving them the lead, 2-1. Daniella Ben-Abraham closed the gap again not long after, winning her match to bring the score to two all. No. 69 Sabine Rutlauka rebounded in her match, working from behind in set two to win her match and put the Red and Blue within one point of the win. The match was clinched by Maya Urata, playing in the sixth spot, with an incredible comeback win to notch the fourth point for Penn.
