Heavyweights Win Blackwell Cup For First Time Since 2002

LEONIA, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew is in possession of the Blackwell Cup for the first time since 2002 after defeating Yale and Columbia Saturday morning on the Schuylkill Rivers. The Bulldogs were victorious in the other three races on the day, including the 2V8 for the Colgan Cup.

Varsity Eights (Blackwell Cup)
Penn's tenth-ranked boat put the Bulldogs and Lions away down the stretch, ultimately winning by a little more than five seconds over Eli's seventh-ranked boat. No. 16 Columbia was nearly 13 seconds off the pace for second.

Second Varsity Eights
Tight racing between the Quakers and Bulldogs here, Yale ultimately winning by a little less than two seconds. Columbia was well off the pace.

Third Varsity Eights
The Bulldogs were victorious in a competitive race here, as well, by about three seconds as the Quakers kept in contact throughout the 2,000 meters.

The first race of the day was the widest margin of victory, the Bulldogs starting things with a 13-second win.

Up Next
Penn will be in Boston next Saturday to face Harvard and Navy. The Adams Cup will be in play in the Varsity Eights race on the Charles River.
