PRINCETON, N.J. - Penn's
Kampton Kam has been named the Ivy League Men's Athlete of the Week, announced the league on Tuesday.
Kam broke a 30-year old Singapore national record in the men's high jump clearing 2.25m (7' 4.25") at the South Florida Invitational. The previous national record of 2.22m was set in 1995 by Wong Yew Tong. Kam sits first in the NCAA and second on the Quakers all-time performance list.
" This has been a goal of Kampton's for many years," said assistant director of track & field
Joe Klim. "To break this long standing record of 30 years is truly something special. Kampton is an absolute joy to work with and I am glad I have been able to share in his success. It was an awesome moment, witnessing him break the record and seeing how excited his teammates and coaches were."
Kam now holds the U18, U19, U20, U23, Indoor, and Outdoor Singapore national records.
The men's and women's track and field teams travel to the Tom Jones Invitational, Mt. Sac Relays, and Paul Donahue Invitational this weekend.
