PHILADELPHIA— The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team fell to Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. earlier this afternoon, 4-1.
With the result, the Quakers fell to 3-2 in conference play and 10-9 overall on the season.
Cornell jumped out to an early lead, claiming the doubles point with two straight doubles wins from Victoria Zhao/H.K. Jenny Wong and Alexandra Savu/Emma Baker. In the singles portion, Zhao doubled the Big Red's lead with a two-set victory in the third spot. No. 116 Esha Velaga battled right back for the Quakers, cutting the lead in half with a two-set win of her own in the two spot. Emma Baker notched the third point for Cornell with a two-set win in the six spot, and Michelle Ryndin secured the win with a three-set win in the one spot. The remaining matches were abandoned once Cornell clinched, the final score 4-1.
