ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team is in third place out of eight teams after the first day at the Navy Spring Invitational, as the Quakers try to defend their team title. The two-day, 36-hole event is being contested on the par-72 USNA Golf Course.

Penn shot 303 as a team in Saturday's first round. That has the Quakers four shots behind first-place Boston University (299) and three behind tournament host Navy (300). Of the other Ivy League teams in the field, Dartmouth (307) is fourth and Columbia (308) is fifth.
Individually, junior
Julie Shin led the 53-player field in par-4 scoring on Saturday (3.80) and finished the day at even-par 72. That has her alone in third place. Junior
Bridget O'Keefe and senior
Natalie Cao—who's in the field as an individual—both shot 2-over-par 74 and are tied for fifth.
Freshman
Claire Lu carded a first-round 77 and is tied for 15th, while
Maggie Ni (playing as an individual) shot 79 and is tied for 19th. She also was one of five golfers who averaged 4.75 on par 5s Saturday, tops in the field. Senior
Debby Chang was Penn's fourth scorer on Saturday, carding an 80, and
Madeleine Zang was right behind her with an 81.
BU's Amy Han and Columbia's Sarah Shao share the individual lead after Saturday's action, as both shot 1-under-par 71 which leaves them a shot up on Shin and two ahead of Dartmouth's Lauren Pham.
