PHILADELPHIA— The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team moved above the .500 mark on the season with a win over Fairleigh Dickinson earlier this afternoon.
The Quakers made quick work of the Knights this afternoon, taking the match handily. Despite Fairleigh Dickinson making the match difficult at times, the Red and Blue adapted and fought through some uncomfortable play to earn the win.
The doubles point was the first challenge of the day for Penn as Fairleigh Dickinson won the first doubles matchup between Alena Kubanova/Yelena Kim (FDU) and Maya Urata/Lara Stojanovski. Esha Velaga and Gavriella Smith cut the deficit with a win, Eileen Wang and Liza Tkachenko securing the doubles point with a win of their own.
In the singles portion of the dual match, Maya Urata doubled Penn's lead with a swift two-set victory over Katsiaryna Kostsina. Lara Stojanovski completed her match not long after, adding on for the Quakers. Esha Velaga secured the team win with her victory over Namie Isago, clearing the four-point threshold for the Red and Blue. Victories from Gavriella Smith, Liza Tkachenko, and Eileen Wang kept the sweep intact, finishing with a team score of 7-0.
