PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team, led by senior
Maya Urata, captured a 4-1 win over Cornell in the final home match of the season.
Despite a 6-3 win by
Maya Urata and
Joleen Saw, the Quakers fell behind 1-0 after doubles as the Big Red took two of three.
With their backs against the wall, the Red and Blue knew that they had to dig deep and find a way to get back into the match.
Junior
Esha Velaga began the rally with a two-set victory at #1 as she tied the match, 1-1.
Sophomore
Lara Stojanovski followed with another win for the Quakers at #2 as Penn took a 2-1 lead.
Varsha Vedula cruised to an identical 6-1 finish in two sets as the Quakers went up 3-1 with the clinching match being none other than
Maya Urata on her senior day.
Urata was fantastic in her final home match in University City as the senior from La Canada, California clinched the win for the Quakers in two sets.
Penn is now 11-10 on the season with two matches left.
