CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team went second across the board at the Doc Hosea Invitational, which took place Saturday on the Cooper River.
All three NCAA boats followed the same script, winning their heats but falling to Rutgers in the grand final late Saturday morning. Penn's 3V8 also won its heat before taking second to the Scarlet Knights in its grand final, while the V4B was second to a Rutgers boat in the heats and third behind a pair of Knights fours in the grand final.
In the morning heats, Penn's Varsity Eight defeated Northeastern which—coupled with its win over Syracuse last Saturday, also on the Cooper River—kept the Orange Challenge Cup on Boathouse Row. The 1V8 consisted of
Cami Edwards, cox;
Caroline Schuldt, stroke;
Silvia Harrop-Lopez, 7 seat;
Brooke Caragher, 6;
Georgia Sackrey, 5;
Hannah Lemanowicz, 4;
Marren Burgess, 3;
Makeda Harrison, 2;
Christina Kamenev, bow.

"Today's victory over Northeastern at the Doc Hosea Regatta coupled with last weekend's win over Syracuse kept the Orange Challenge Cup at Penn's Burk-Bergman Boathouse," said Penn's head coach,
Bill Manning. "We are extremely pleased the 1V8 raced so well with both Northeastern and Syracuse. The Orange Challenge Cup is one of the original cups for Women's Rowing and has been contested by Penn, Northeastern, and Syracuse since 1977.
"The full squad enjoyed great success at the Doc Hosea Regatta today, sweeping ten other Division 1 teams, including regular NCAA Championship competitors Navy, Northeastern, and Rhode Island," he continued. "We raced Rutgers closer than last weekend, especially in the 2V8, but still fell to them. Our 1V8 has now defeated twelve other boats this spring, with only Rutgers placing ahead of them."
