Collins Unanimously Named Ivy Rookie of the Year; Almqvist, Gayle Earn All-Ivy

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team was well-represented when the Ivy League major awards and All-Ivy selections were announced Tuesday afternoon.

Katie Collins was unanimously named Ivy Rookie of the Year—the second consecutive year Penn has won the honor—while Stina Almqvist (first team) and Mataya Gayle (honorable mention) earned All-Ivy honors.

Almqvist was also named the Quakers' Academic All-Ivy representative for her outstanding work in the classroom and on the field.

Collins is the first Ivy League player to win the award unanimously since Penn alum Eleah Parker in 2017-18 and the 13th player overall.

Collins is the seventh player in the Mike McLaughlin era—and the eighth Penn player overall—to be named Rookie of the Year. Diana Caramanico (1997-98), Alyssa Baron (2010-11), Sydney Stipanovich (2013-14), Michelle Nwokedi (2014-15), Parker, Kayla Padilla (2019-20), and Gayle (2023-24) all won the award before Collins.

Collins had a tremendous first season wearing the Red and Blue. She averaged 10.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while starting all 27 games. Collins led the Ivy League in blocks per game (1.7) and blocks (45). She was fourth in rebounding and third overall in total boards (197). Collins was also ranked in the top 10 in steals at 1.5 per game. Her blocks per game average is good for 56th in the nation. Collins had six double-doubles—ranked second on the team—and had a season-high 21 points vs. Yale on Feb. 21.

In addition, Collins was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week nine times, the second-most in both Ivy and Penn history. She brought home the award in five straight weeks from Feb. 3 to March 3.

Almqvist is the 23rd player in program history to be named first-team All-Ivy and the 38th honor overall. It's the second time she has earned All-Ivy laurels, taking home second-team honors in 2023-24.

She put together a signature season in 2024-25, averaging 17.7 points and 7.7 rebounds while making a start in all 27 games. Almqvist scored 20 points 11 times during the year and reached double digits in 24 of her 27 appearances.

She scored a career-high 28 points with 10 rebounds at Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.) on Dec. 31 and on Feb. 15 vs. Brown, Almqvist recorded her 1,000th career point, becoming the 26th player in program history to reach the milestone.

Almqvist ranked first among Ancient Eight players in minutes per game (36.0) and free throws (122). She was third in scoring and third in rebounding.

Gayle followed up her Rookie of the Year season in 2023-24 with a solid honorable mention All-Ivy campaign. She finished second on the team in scoring (12.3 ppg) and led the team in assists (4.3 apg) and was third in the Ivy League. Gayle tied for fourth in minutes per game (33.4) with teammate Collins.

She scored a season-high 26 points in a win over Yale on Feb. 14. She tallied a career-high nine assists on three occasions.

Penn begins its #IvyMadness journey on Friday in Providence. The fourth-overall seed, the Quakers play top seed and outright Ivy champion Columbia at 4:30 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Penn is playing in the Ivy League Tournament for the third straight year and is appearing for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
