PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team closed out 2025 action on Monday night, overcoming Virginia 24-16 in the Palestra.
 
#14 Evan Mougalian pushed Penn to victory over the Hoos, getting a first-period pin over Kyle Montaperto with two matches to go.

*CJ Composto made his season debut against the Hoos, taking his match with Kyren Butler by decision, 6-5.
 
*Davis Motyka (125), Cross Wasilewski (149), Sean Seefeldt (165), and Caden Bellis (174) also won their matches to help lead the Red and Blue to victory.
 
*The Quakers shift to 3-0 in dual action heading into the new year.
 
*#4 Wasilewski moved to a perfect 11-0 record on the year off his 4-2 decision with Wynton Dekins.
 
How It Happened
The meet was tense from the start at 157, with the Hoos and Quakers exchanging the first two matches. Freshman Bellis gave Penn its first lead at 6-3 off a gritty one-point decision over Emmitt Sherlock, but Virginia struck back, taking 174 to 285 to lead 16-6.
 
A forfeit from the Cavaliers at 125 gave Penn a spark, as junior Mougalian pinned Montaperto in 2:09 to give the Quakers a lead they would not release, as Composto and Wasilewski won their bouts to put the score at its final tally of 24-16.
