PHILADELPHIA – With the University of Pennsylvania football team's 2025 season finished, senior punter
Santiago Sturla was named Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The honor is Penn's ninth of the season and the first of Sturla's career. It's the fifth Special Teams Player of the Week honor the Quakers claimed this year, tying a program record set in 2008.
Sturla was excellent in the punting game as Penn took down Princeton, 17-6, Saturday at Franklin Field. He punted four times for 131 yards, had a long of 40 yards, and had two punts land inside the 20-yard line.
Most notably, none of Sturla's punts were returned which adds to a successful season for punt defense. Penn allowed just three punts for -12 yards all season long, the first team in FCS history to allow negative yardage throughout a year.
Senior quarterback
Liam O'Brien, senior defensive lineman
Jake Davis, and freshman kicker
Mason Walters were tabbed to the Ivy League's weekly honor roll for their efforts.
Penn ended the 2025 season with an overall record of 6-4, going 4-3 in Ivy play to tie for third place in the Ancient Eight standings. It's the program's best finish since 2022.
