PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team opened home action on Saturday afternoon, topping Hofstra 35-8 inside the Palestra.
 
#31 Davis Motyka (125), Deven Casey (133), Nathan Taylor (141), #6 Cross Wasilewski (149), Jackson Polo (157), Sean Seefeldt (165), Caden Bellis (174), and John Pardo took their matches against Hofstra to account for Penn's 35 points in the first home victory of the season.
 
Quaker Notemeal
*Freshman Casey and Seefeldt won the first collegiate duals of their careers. It was also Casey's first start at 133.
 
*Casey grabbed the sole pin in the battle with a second period fall against the Pride's Gauge Shipp.
 
*The win marks head coach Matt Valenti's first in the Palestra.
 
*Sophomore Wasilewski shifted to 5-0 on the season off a tech fall over Jackson Slotnick.
 
How It Happened
Penn controlled the meet from the start, with Motyka (8-2 DEC), Casey (5:02 F), Taylor (14-0 TF), Wasilewski (18-2 TF), Polo (13-2 MD), Seefeldt (8-0 MD), and Bellis (2-1) all winning their bouts to give the Quakers a steep 30-0 lead heading into the heavyweight battles.
 
Hofstra struck back at 184 and 197 with Matthew Waddell (20-5 TF) and Will Conlon (6-1) cutting the lead to 30-8, but it didn't matter as sophomore Pardo record the Red and Blue's third tech fall (19-3) of the contest to push the score to its final tally of 35-8.
