PHILADELPHIA– The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team hosted the 28th annual Cissie Leary Invitational this weekend at the Hamlin and Hecht Tennis Centers.
The Quakers competed against Temple, Cornell, William and Mary, Princeton, Drexel and Maryland over the course of the three day event.
Five Quakers won their singles matches on Friday as
Maya Urata,
Joleen Saw,
Sarah Wang,
Liza Tkachenko and
Varsha Vedula defeated their respective opponents.
Wang and Vedula also won in their doubles match (8-6) against Cornell's Tanya Fan and Andrea Martinez De Los Rios.
Penn's Saw also won her singles match on Saturday, defeating William and Mary's Alexia Gonzalez-Galino (7-5, 0-6, 6-4).
Three sets of Quakers won doubles on Saturday as Urata/Saw, Tkachenko/Motlagh and Wang/Velaga emerged victorious.
The final day of the invitational saw Wang defeat Maryland's Katherine Hung (6-4, 6-3).

The Red and Blue will prepare for next week's ITA Northeast Regional, which will last from Thursday, Oct. 9 to Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Penn will be hosting the event at the Hamlin and Hecht Tennis Centers.
