"PWC enjoyed another exceptional Head of the Schuylkill Regatta," said Penn's head coach,
Bill Manning. "The City of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia rowing community and Boathouse Row, our alumnae, and the weather all turned out to make a great day.
"The team won Gold and Silver in each event we entered," he continued. "We improved upon last year's performance. Everyone raced twice, with a few women racing three times. Our women did an exceptional job supporting and challenging each other and that, along with aggressive and persistent racing, led to our strong showing and all the medals. I'm especially pleased for our First Years, who placed first and second in the Freshman/Novice 4+ and won the Freshman 8+ by over thirty seconds."
Frosh/Novice Fours: Penn's two boats went 1-2 in this division, the 'A' boat clocking 14:06.165 and the 'B' boat timed in 14:51.001 across the Schuylkill's three-mile course. Overall, 17 boats completed racing in this division.
Championship Fours: A total of 56 boats raced in this division but Penn again went 1-2 as the Quakers' 'B' boat clocked 13:34.855 and the 'A' boat finished in 13:42.288.
Frosh/Novice Eights: Penn had just one boat race in this division and it posted the fastest time among 19 boats that competed. The Quakers were timed in 12:53.545, which was more than 30 seconds ahead of second-place UConn (13:24.299).
Club Championship Eights: Penn had three boats compete in this division, and the Quakers went 1-2-4 with only UConn's top boat keeping the Red and Blue from a sweep. Penn's 'B' boat clocked 12:40.967, followed by the 'A' boat (12:57.557), UConn (13:13.777), and Penn's 'C' boat (13:15.198).
Championship Eights: Penn had four boats row in the final event of the day for the program, with the 'B' (12:25.572) and 'A' (12:31.823) going 1-2 in a field of 27 boats. The Quakers' 'C' boat was fifth overall, in 12:50.396, while their 'D' boat was 11th overall in 12:59.490.
"These are early days," cautioned Manning. "But if we build from this, develop, and aim high we can achieve good results this spring, too."
