PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The 22nd ranked University of Pennsylvania women's rowing crew competed at the Ivy League Championship Sunday, finishing seventh with 26 team points.
The 3V8 crew produced the best finish of the day, earning a bronze medal with a time of 6:41.7. In the second final of the 1V8 and 2V8, Penn took down Cornell with times of 6:28.3 and 6:38.1, respectively. The final crew to compete was the Varsity Fours, who placed sixth with a 7:15.8.
"This weekend Penn had mixed results at the Ivy League Championships," said Penn head coach
Bill Manning. "Our youth led the way with the 3V winning a well-deserved bronze medal open water ahead of fourth place."
"In their A Final the A4+ raced courageously with the front of the field for 1500 meters before fading at the end. Both boats developed significantly over the course of the spring season, with many athletes rotating through the line-ups, thanks to their efforts and the coaching of Coach
Allyson Baker and Coach
Josie Konopka."
"Saturday the 2V stumbled badly in the Heat which placed them in the B Final. They won this race today leading from the first stroke and finishing over fourteen seconds of the next crew. A great rebound after a disappointing first race. The 1V also struggled in a quick Heat then showed more poise today winning their B Final by open water too."
