How it Happened
If last year's match was any indication, this battle would be a defensive one, and a defensive one it proved to be at the start. Corner kicks were the name of the game in the first half, with six in the first 25 minutes. Both teams had opportunities off these kicks but both defenses held firm.

At the 26th minute, junior Abbey Cook got the ball around midfield and immediately got into a foot race with the defender, a race in which she won to set up a one-on-one with the goaltender. Cook put the ball low and to the right to give Penn a 1-0 lead.

After the 30th minute, Harvard got good looks from August Hunter and Anna Rayhill, but couldn't cash in on either to keep the deficit at one.

Harvard opened the second half with offensive pressure. The Crimson got a great look inside off a cross, but senior goaltender Annabel Austen was able to deflect it away. The ensuing corner kick provided the Crimson with a chance too, but Austen was able to corral the ball for the save.

At the 51st minute, junior defender Anna Rayhill grabbed the ball on the far side of the box. Rayhill put a move on the defender and put a sharply angled shot on the goal from the near the far post. The ball found a pocket in the upper portion of the goal to level the score.

As the second half progressed, Harvard continued to generate offensive pressure. Harvard outshot Penn 16 to 1 in the second half. But it was that one shot that made all the difference for the Quakers.

At the 71st minute, junior Magali Capdevila carried the ball past midfield and sent a beautiful lob pass towards the way of fellow junior Avery Chapel. With Crimson goalie Rhiannon Stewart closing in, Chapel chipped it over Stewart's head. The ball crossed the net before a defender could stop it, and the game was once again in Penn control.

Harvard had good looks to get the match back to even, including a very close header with 50 seconds left, but the Chapel goal was ultimately enough to give Penn its first Ivy League victory of the season.

This win is a huge one for Penn, as Harvard entered the match atop the Ivy League standings. The Quakers will look to use this momentum in the season finale, when they take on Yale on November 1 at Rhodes Field.
