How it Happened
The match started slow and methodical with neither side dominating time of possession. Penn's first shot came at the 16th minute, when freshman
Lauren Anderson sent a good cross to junior
Abbey Cook, who put a left foot on the ball and put it just wide right of the net.
The match continued on as before following the attempt. Only three shots were attempted in the first half. Aside from those shots and two corners from Penn, both defenses held very firm and played outside of the goaltenders' concerns.
In the first few minutes of the second half, Yale attempted just their second shot of the contest, when freshman forward JoJo DeNegri sent a lofting ball from the far side of the box. The shot was easily handled by senior
Annabel Austen for her first save of the match.
Following this shot, Penn became the aggressor and began to find their pressure offensively. They got a good chance at the 73rd minute, when senior
Anuli Okafor collected a ball on the far side of the box and put a sharp angled shot on the goaltender, which she deflected away.
Another good chance came Penn's way when a corner kick came at the 78th minute. Penn opted to go for the safe play and passed it along to
Magali Capdevila, who put a shot above the goal.
In all, the match only saw 15 total shots in a defensive battle. Penn ends their year with a record of 5-4-6 and six Ivy League points.
Abbey Cook ends the year as the Quakers leading goal scorer (6) and point-getter (13), while
Annabel Austen led the way with saves (57).
