Field Hockey Faces #14 Yale, Saint Joseph’s This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team looks to extend its three-game winning streak against Ivy League opponent Yale and city rival Saint Joseph's this weekend.
 
Penn is coming off wins against Columbia and Temple last weekend.

Penn vs Yale
The Quakers are 30-15-2 all-time against the Bulldogs, winning seven of the last ten matchups. Penn lost last year's game 2-1 in overtime at New Haven, Connecticut. Penn enters the game on a season-high three-game winning streak. Yale has won five straight, losing only to Ivy League opponents Cornell and Princeton this season. Penn is undefeated against Yale at Ellen Vagelos Field, with the last home loss coming in 2011 at Franklin Field.
 
Penn vs Saint Joseph's
The Red and Blue will square off against the city rival Hawks on Sunday for the 27th time in program history. Penn has lost the last five matchups and has not won since 2016. Last year's game resulted in a 5-1 Saint Joseph's win. The Hawks have struggled as of late, losing their last four games.
 
Quaker Notemeal
*Penn was ranked No. 11 in the NCAA RPI rankings this week.
 
*The Quakers are riding a season-high three-game winning streak, defeating Villanova, Columbia and Temple.
 
*Livia Loozen scored the game winning goal in the final two minutes against Columbia, her second goal of the season.
 
*Honor Roberts (4), Philine Klas (4) and Beau Lilly Barrington-Hibbert (2) added to their goal totals against Temple.
 
*The Quakers have only lost to ranked opponents this season.
 
*Penn's defense has given up just three goals in the last three games.
 
Scouting the Bulldogs
*Yale is one of the most well balanced teams in the country, ranking No. 10 in the NCAA in scoring margin with a 1.79 goal differential against its opponents this season.
 
*The Bulldogs have a high powered and aggressive offense as they have outscored opponents 39-14 this year and average three goals per game, ranking 15th in the country. The team also averages just over 20 shots per game.
 
*Senior Poppy Beales leads the team in goals (11) and points (23).
 
*Goalkeeper Amelie Schwarzkopf ranks 14th in the country in save percentage (.783).
 
Scouting the Hawks
*Saint Joseph's ranks No. 2 in the country in penalty corners with 9.73 per game.
 
*Graduate student Ava Smith leads the team with 12 goals and 25 points this season. No other player has scored more than three goals this season.
 
*The Hawks defense has kept them in games, giving up an average of 1.2 goals per game while recording four shutouts.
