Another Historic Game Gets Richardson Second Straight Ivy Offensive Player of the Week Award

PHILADELPHIA – For a fifth consecutive week to begin the 2025 season, a member of the University of Pennsylvania football team has received a weekly award from the Ivy League as senior wide receiver Jared Richardson was tabbed Ivy Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.

The instance ties a program record after Penn won eight weekly awards in a five-week span back in 1993. The award is the fourth of Richardson's career, now tied with Chris Flynn '87 for the third-most in a career.

It's also the first time in history that two different Penn players won a weekly award in consecutive weeks in the same season. Julien Stokes was named Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week in three straight weeks to begin the current campaign.

Richardson put together another special performance in Penn's 35-21 victory at Columbia on Saturday, leading the team in receiving once again with six catches for 158 yards and a career-high tying three touchdown grabs. He's the first player in Penn's 149-year history to have three career games of three touchdowns.

Most notably, his 31-yard touchdown catch late in the third quarter pushed him over the 2,000-yard mark for his career, becoming just the sixth player in program history to reach the milestone. Richardson also registered a 76-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter, the longest catch of his career and Penn's longest catch since the 2018 season.

Richardson has gone over the 100-yard mark in four of his five games this season, putting himself over the 150-yard threshold in back-to-back contests. He enters Week 6 leading NCAA FCS football in receiving yards per game 125.6) and is second in receptions per game (8.20) and third in receiving touchdowns (8).

For their individual performances, senior QB Liam O'Brien, junior LB Cole Olsztyn, and senior DL Carter Janki were tabbed to the Ivy League's weekly honor roll.

Now receiving votes in both the AFCA coaches poll and Stats Perform media poll, Penn continues its road trip up to New Haven to face Yale Saturday at noon. Winners of three straight games, the Quakers are looking for their first 3-0 start to Ivy play since 2022.
