PHILADEPHIA– The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team followed up a dominant day two of the ITA Northeast Regionals with another day of impressive performances, especially in singles.
Three out of five Quakers won their singles matches, advancing to the next round of the tournament.
Esha Velaga kickstarted the day with a win over Anastasia Kavounov (Drexel) 6-1, 6-2.
Joleen Saw followed with her fourth singles win of the tournament, over Mai Nguyen (Rutgers) 6-3, 6-4.
Maya Urata secured the final singles win of the day defeating Laura Wipfli (NJIT) in a grueling match which included two tie breakers, 6-7, 7-6, 6-1.
With their wins, Urata, Velaga and Saw earned appearances in the round of 16 of the main singles draw beginning tomorrow, Oct. 12.
The Quaker tandems of Velaga/Stojanovski and Urata/Saw were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the main doubles draw, while Vedula/Wang were eliminated in the second round.
