Wrestling Wrangles Drexel and Wyoming to Place Fifth at Elite Duals

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Pennsylvania finished the Elite Duals at the UNI-Dome on Saturday afternoon, topping Drexel 30-12 and Wyoming 26-14 to place at the tournament.
 
Penn went 4-1 at the Elite Duals, topping Ohio (38-9), Sacred Heart (41-3), the Dragons, and the Cowboys to land fifth place in Cedar Falls.
 
Quaker Notemeal
*The Quakers grappled Wyoming for the first time in program history, picking up a victory as well.
 
*#25 Ryan Miller (133), #9 CJ Composto (141), #19 Cross Wasilewski (149), #5 Nick Incontrera (174), and #20 Maximus Hale (184) swept the day, winning both matches they competed in.
 
*Senior Composto and freshman Wasilewski picked up top-30 victories against the Cowboys.
 
*Penn battled Drexel at a neutral site for the first time in program history.
 
How It Happened
The Red and Blue won the first four bouts against the Dragons, with Brady Pruett (125) pinning his opponent in the first period and Wasilewski getting a major decision over Jon Fuller (11-2) to give Penn a 16-0 lead.
 
The Quakers got back on track at 174, as senior Incontrera defeated Isaiah Queen (5-3) to extend the lead to 19-9. Senior Hale secured the win and Penn's spot in the fifth-place match during the 184 bout as he pinned Guiseppe Hoose in 46 seconds to make the deficit too large for Drexel to overcome.
 
The fifth-place battle with the Cowboys started similarly as Penn won the 125-149 matches, highlighted by Composto coming back from a 7-3 deficit in the third period, pinning #30 Cole Brooks at the 6:47 mark, and Wasilewski dominating #22 Gabe Willochell (15-4) to lengthen the lead over Wyoming to 17-0. Seniors Incontrera and Hale secured Penn's 26 points in the win and fifth place at the Elite Duals.

The Quakers (5-3) open Ivy League action on Friday, Jan. 24, heading to the Big Apple for a 7 p.m. battle with Columbia.
