Drexel Controls Fourth Quarter and Tops Field Hockey, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to its 33rd Street neighbors Drexel Sunday afternoon at Buckley Field.

*Freshman Darcey Chapman started for the first time in her collegiate career.

*Penn recorded a season-high 13 shots.

*For the second game in a row, the Quakers set a season-high for penalty corners with six.

How It Happened
The first half was a defensive battle that saw neither team gain much ground. The Quakers recorded seven shots, compared to just one for the Dragons.

Penn put the pressure on Drexel in the third quarter. The Quakers generated multiple great opportunities. Their best chance of the quarter came with four minutes remaining. Penn was awarded a penalty corner which Courtney Kenah inserted. She found Philine Klas who sent it down the left post, but Drexel made the save.

The fourth quarter had all three goals of today's contest. Drexel got on the board first, stopping a Penn penalty corner and went on the counterattack. The Dragons took it down the field before Anna Castaldo set up Marti Sanabria for the 1-0 edge.

Five minutes later, Drexel scored again off a penalty corner in which Sanabria took the initial shot off the insert but was blocked. Pien Elsen corralled the rebound and shot it past Ruby de Frees to make it 2-0.

Penn responded quickly as Ryan received a pass deep into the circle and slotted it in for her second goal of the season. The Quakers couldn't find the equalizer in the final five minutes and fell, 2-1.
