Ruby de Frees saved seven shots in the cage for the Quakers while Princeton's Beth Yeager recorded a hat trick.
Quaker Notemeal
*De Frees has recorded seven-plus saves three times this season.
*The Quakers took four penalty corners in the game. It is a season-high, outpacing their previous total against Temple (3) back on Sept. 13.
*Yeager's hat trick was the third in her career. Her last one came against Dartmouth on Oct. 9, 2021, where she scored four goals.
How It Happened
The Tigers struck four minutes into the first quarter when they were awarded a penalty corner. Grace Schulze inserted it for Yeager who found the back of the net.
The two teams traded opportunities for the rest of the quarter, but no one scored. The Quakers had their best chance of the quarter with three minutes remaining.
Darcey Chapman put a shot on target and the Quakers were subsequently awarded a penalty corner. On the ensuing penalty corner, Chapman's shot was too high.
After a defensive second quarter, Princeton would strike again in the third. Beth Yeager got the ball around the center line and maneuvered past Penn's defense. She would rip a shot from the right side to score her second goal of the afternoon to make it a 2-0 game.
Early in the fourth quarter, Yeager found herself in front of the net looking for a hat trick. Ella Hampson would cross it to her from the corner where Yeager snuck it under de Frees.
Penn had multiple opportunities to cut the deficit in the fourth but couldn't convert.
Meghan McGinley had back-to-back shots off penalty corners, with Schulze making the defensive save on one.
Penn did score a goal with ten minutes remaining, but it was overturned. Princeton turned the ball over at midfield, setting up a perfect counterattack for the Quakers.
Livia Loozen took it down the field before passing it to
Julia Ryan in front of the net. Ryan tapped it in, but the officials waived it off it due to the ball being hit with the back of the stick.
After those chances, time wasn't on Penn's side as they couldn't get a goal on the board. It would fall to Princeton, 3-0.
