Women's Soccer Narrowly Defeated by Navy, 2-1

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team took a tough loss to Navy on Thursday night, 2-1. Isabella Zulli scored the first goal of the match less than three minutes in but the Midshipmen came back with an equalizer in the first half and then got a late winner at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

The Quakers now sit at 0-4-3 and the Mids move to 6-4-0.

Quaker Notemeal
*Zulli's goal was the first of her collegiate career.

*Maya Leschly, Clare Robke, Leah Finkelman, and Eden Veenema played the entire match, clocking a full 90 minutes on the pitch.

*Goalkeeper Annabel Austen once again clocked the full 90 minutes between the pipes and had five total saves.

*Penn was nearly level with Navy in the shot department, the Mids finishing with a 15-13 advantage. The Quakers had 11 different players credited with shots and seven who put shots on target, led by Magali Capdevila and Hailey Adamsky who had two shots each (one each on goal).

*Taylor Ferraro made her first start of the season.

How it Happened
The Quakers struck first with Zulli starting and finishing a counterattack. After a Navy giveaway, Zulli took the ball through midfield and fed fellow freshman Mila Maltby on the right side. Maltby turned into the middle near the top of the goal box and fed it back to Zulli, who poked it just away from a Navy defender and then fired a shot past the goalkeeper's right side and inside the far post.

Following the goal from Zulli, the Quakers kept the pressure on with four more shots on target during the first half. However, the Navy keeper was equal to the challenge every time to.

At the other end, Penn committed a foul near the top of its goal box in the 21st minute. It proved costly when Navy's Amanda Graziano found an opening and snuck a left-footed shot around the Quakers' wall and just inside the far post past a diving Austen. That leveled the match at 1-1.

Navy's second goal also came outside the run of play. With just over seven minutes left, the Mids took a corner kick from the left side that Graziano put right in front of goal. There was a scramble when Austen couldn't punch the ball away, and Marlee Heaven pushed it into the net amid the scrum to give Navy a lead it would not relinquish.
