Track & Field

Penn To Be Well Represented at USATF Olympic Trials From June 21-30

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track & field programs will be well represented at the upcoming USATF Olympic Trials, which run June 21-30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Five student-athletes who recently completed the 2023-24 season for the Quakers and six alums will be in action across the next 10 days.

On the men's side, recent graduate Scott Toney and rising senior James Rhoads will compete in the pole vault while rising sophomore Ryan Matulonis has qualified in the 400-meter hurdles. Two alums will also be in action, both former NCAA champions while wearing the Red and Blue: Sam Mattis in the discus and Marc Minichello in the javelin.

On the women's side, recent graduate Isabella Whittaker will run in the 400 on the first weekend while classmate Aliya Garozzo will compete in the 400-meter hurdles over the final three days. Alums to keep an eye out for include Nia Akins in the 800, Mayyi Mahama in the hammer throw, Maura Kimmel in the discus, and Skyla Wilson in both hurdles events (100m, 400m).

All running events will have three rounds across three separate days, with fields being whittled down each round. The field events will have two rounds, one for qualifying and then finals.
