Solid First Day For Track & Field Programs at Outdoor Heps

Rhoads (PV), Murphy (10K) bookend day with individual titles

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track & field teams have completed the first day of the Ivy Heptagonal Outdoor Championships at Princeton's Weaver Stadium.

The men ended the day in second place with 22 points, all of them coming in the pole vault. The women are third, gaining 18 points in the day's final event to end the day with 22.5.

*Junior James Rhoads, senior Scott Toney and junior Benedikt Sachta went 1-2-4 in the men's pole vault, getting the Quakers 22 valuable points. Both Rhoads and Toney cleared 5.46 meters (17 feet 11 inches) but Rhoads was declared the winner based on fewer misses on the day.

*On the women's side, sophomore Lily Murphy and senior Maeve Stiles went 1-2 in the final event on the track Saturday, the 10K. Murphy clocked 32:45.88 while Stiles set a PR and broke 33 minutes for the first time at 32:51.12. They remain 1-2 on the program's top 10 list after tonight's winning performance, which brought the Quakers 18 points.

*The women also had two fifth-place finishes, freshman Evangeline Thomson in the pole vault and sophomore Angeludi Asaah in the discus, while junior Meghan Hart tied for sixth in the pole vault to secure half a point.
