PHILADELPHIA- The University of Pennsylvania softball team dropped its series finale against Columbia on Sunday, 4-2. at Penn ParkĀ

Despite Dana Anderson's second homer of the season, the Red and Blue fell short in a close contest against the top team in the Ivy League.Ā

FINAL: Columbia 4, Penn 2Ā

After getting the first two outs in the top of the first, Rachel Riley ran into some trouble after surrendering back-to-back singles and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. A walk drawn by Payton Shimansky loaded the bases for the Lions. Riley then got a fly out to center to end the threat.Ā

In the top of the second, a leadoff single put Maddy Rifenberick on first, as she advanced to second on a bunt placed by Georgia Corey. Columbia followed with back-to-back doubles which plated a pair of runs. At the end of the second, Columbia led 2-0.Ā

Penn got on the board in the bottom of the second when Anderson launched her second home run of the season to left field, to cut the deficit, 2-1.Ā

The Lions got the run back in the bottom of the fifth when Savanna Messner sent one over the right field fence, extending the lead, 3-1.Ā

In the bottom of the fifth, Julia Mortimer dropped in a single and was moved to second when Brianna Brown shot one off the end of the bat to right field. Delaney Smith lined one up the middle, as Mortimer slid home evading the throw to the plate, as Penn once again got within one, 3-2.Ā

The Quakers threatened in the bottom of the sixth as Chloe Lesko drew a one-out walk, Katie Reagan followed up with a single back to the pitcher. Madison Bauerle then grounded into a fielder's choice, advancing Lesko to third. Mortimer then struck out with a pair of runners on base, to end the run-scoring opportunity.Ā

Cami Neal sent one over the left field fence in the top of the seventh, for her third home run of the weekend, making the score 4-2.Ā Ā

The Red and Blue had the tying run at the plate when Landow worked a walk, followed by a Fenton base on balls. Anderson then singled to first base, but Fenton was caught in a rundown in between second and third and was tagged out by Colombia's second baseman to end the game, as Penn fell, 4-2.
