PHILADELPHIA – Two more track & field program records were broken this afternoon—one of the men's side, one on the women's—and both the men's and women's 4x400 teams will run for Championship of America wheels tomorrow afternoon. Those performances highlighted Penn's action at the second day of the Penn Relays.

The quartet of
Dimitri Nicholson,
Nayyir Newash-Campbell,
Andrew O'Donnell and
Ryan Matulonis clocked 3:06.23 in its men's 4x400 CoA heat, the seventh best time of the day which was enough to get them into Saturday's Championship of America. More impressively, it broke by more than two seconds a program mark that had stood since 1996 (3:08.37).
On the women's side, Penn nearly pulled out a win in the sprint medley relay late in the day, but Clemson and Texas A&M reeled in the Quakers' anchor leg in the final few strides, the three teams separated by a mere .91 seconds (Clemson 3:41.41, A&M 3:42.29, Penn 3:42.32). The Quakers' time from
Moforehan Abinusawa,
Christiana Nwachuku,
Isabella Whittaker,
Bronwyn Patterson was more than 10 seconds ahead of the previous program standard (3:52.68) set in 2015.
Penn's 4x400 relay team held out arguably its best runner at that distance (Whittaker), but advanced to Saturday's Championship of America with the sixth-best time of the day. The quartet of Nwachuku,
Jocelyn Niemiec, Abinusawa and
Aliya Garozzo clocked 3:34.62, the third-best grouping in program history.
Penn also got a pair of wins in the field events, as
Tumi Onaleye won the women's college triple jump with a best distance of 12.73 meters (41 feet 9.75 inches), which moved her up a spot to third on the program's top 10 list.
Elliott Bush was victorious in the women's college javelin with a top throw of 48.80 meters (160 feet 1 inch), pushing her from tenth to second on the program's top 10 list behind only Kelsey Hay (51.17m in 2015).
