Fencing finishes NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional; Eight Land in Top Ten

MADISON, N.J. – The nationally ranked fencing programs had a strong outing at the 2024 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional hosted by Drew University on Saturday afternoon.

Penn had nine fencers grab top ten finishes in their events, with Blake Broszus, Gian Dhingra, Bryce Louie, and Katina Proestakis Ortiz earning medals.

For the #7 women, junior Proestakis Ortz led the way, grabbing bronze in foil, followed closely by her teammate Sabrina Cho in fourth place. In epee, freshman Grace Hu landed sixth place, while senior Shirley Guo earned ninth to round out the women who placed in the top ten.

The #8 men had a strong performance, especially in foil, with senior Broszus winning gold and Louie following in second place, while Nicholas Molina snatched tenth place. Freshmen Dhingra and Joseph Wu evened out the men's top ten winnings with third place in sabre and fourth in epee.

The NCAA will announce all 2024 NCAA Championship qualifiers on Tuesday, March 12. The NCAA Championship will be held March 21-24 in Columbus, Ohio.
