#18 Wrestling Completes First Day of EIWAs Tied For Third

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania wrestling team completed the first day of the 2024 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships at Bucknell University on Friday night.

Penn sits tied for third in the field of the tournament at 62.5 points, with eight grapplers still fighting to place heading into the final day of the championships. Junior Nick Incontrera was the first Quaker to punch his ticket to the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships from his two wins in the first and second sessions.

#18 CJ Composto (141), #23 Jude Swisher (149), #23 Lucas Revano (157), and #6 Incontrera (174) all went 2-0 on the day to secure a spot in Saturday's semifinal round. Max Gallagher (125), #21 Maximus Hale (184), #25 Cole Urbas (197), and John Stout fell to the consolation bracket but will continue their quest to place on Saturday.

Composto won two decisional battles in the first and second sessions to cement himself in the 141-semifinal round. The junior opened his outing with a hard-fought battle against Harvard's Michael Jaffe. In a similar fashion to the regular season meeting between the two Ivy foes, the match went back-and-worth with Composto coming out on top by decision, 10-9, thanks to a takedown in the third period.

First-year standout Swisher had an outing in his EIWA debut, pinning Michael Zarif (Binghamton) in 4:04 before beating Princeton's Eligh Rivera for a second time this year. In the quarterfinal contest with #29 Rivera, Swisher scored three takedowns in the match to top the Tiger by a major decision, 13-1.

Revano continued his stellar senior run during the first day of the tournament as he opened the round of 16 with a 19-4 tech fall over Dominic Wheatley (Franklin and Marshall). In the quarterfinals, Revano grabbed a decision over Harvard's James Harrington, 9-3, to advance to the semifinal round.

Junior Incontrera secured his spot at Kansas City with a pair of day-one wins. The #6 wrestler opened his third EIWA Championships appearance with a major decision over Lehigh's Connor Herceg, tallying four takedowns over the Mountain Hawk to win 15-4. Incontrera's quarterfinal win from a sudden victory battle with host Bucknell's Myles Takats. The New Jersey native recorded the sole takedown in overtime to claim a 4-1 victory and a spot in the semifinals.
