COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the first time since 1997, a fencer on the nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania men's fencing team won the individual foil title at the 2024 NCAA Fencing Championships.
Senior Bryce Louie edged out his teammate Blake Broszus in the foil final round to become the 2024 NCAA foil national champion. Louis is the first national champion Penn has had since 2013 and the first in foil since 1997.
Louie, Broszus, and Joseph Wu all landed All-America honors from their top 12 finishes at the championships.
As a whole, Penn ended the 2024 NCAA Fencing National Championships in the top ten of the field, garnering eighth place between the men's and women's performances in the Buckeye State.
Senior Louie did not relinquish his lead on the foil field during the second day, staying in first place in the championships to win the gold medal in foil and land First Team All-America for the first time in his collegiate career. Louie won seven contests on the day, including his final win over Broszus to extend his record to 19-23 to end the tournament.
